Gartner Highlights New Risks from Omnissa, Formerly VMware's End-User Compute Business

Gartner's Advisory on Omnissa's Future

Global analytics firm Gartner has issued a warning to patrons of Omnissa – previously known as VMware's end-user compute enterprise. Gartner's concern stems from Omnissa's lack of a robust roadmap despite ambitious plans to expand research, development and strategic partnerships.

The Details Behind Gartner's Concerns

A recent Gartner document titled 'The Future of VMware's EUC Products' has pointed towards certain risks associated with Omnissa. The analysts recommend that users of Workspace ONE application and Horizon desktop virtualization range undertake a risk analysis and formulate contingency strategies.

Core Issues and Future Predictions

Despite considerable investments and promises of R&D expansion by KKR, Omnissa's owners, Gartner remains unimpressed by the company's vague plans of creating AI-infused autonomous workspaces. Customers have been advised to push Omnissa for additional details to facilitate informed planning. Other problematic areas include potential licensing changes, with Gartner predicting higher pricing and altered discounting structures.

Omnissa customers may encounter further issues if they continue running its applications on VMware's platform, as Broadcom no longer sells standalone products and the future of its licensing arrangement with Omnissa remains uncertain. Gartner recommends a contingency plan that considers migration to a new vendor, even though the transition could result in reduced performance or higher costs.
