Tauon Music Player Bolsters Native Support for PipeWire
New Update for Tauon
The celebrated music player Tauon, now provides native PipeWire audio playback on Linux platforms. Though it's currently experimental, Tauon version 7.8.1 ships with native PipeWire support, a development its many users have eagerly awaited. Despite that, some bugs may still exist causing crashes, hence the native PipeWire backend has not yet been enabled by default.
Tauon's Functionality in Linux
Previously integrating with PipeWire through a compatibility layer, pipewire-pulse, the new update doesn't require that layer anymore. Tauon can now directly interact with PipeWire, benefitting from all its features. This comes as a move to resolve issues with the default PulseAudio settings.
Improved Features
Other enhancements in Tauon 7.8.1 include correct import of .aifffiles, improved compatibility for parsing CUE sheets, quicker Jellyfin library imports, and modifications to how albums are grouped in the gallery view. The powerful, playlist-oriented music player leverages GStreamer, offering a wide set of features, integrations and customizations along with strong support for media servers like Jellyfin.
Custom UI
Tauon's UI may not be to everyone's taste, but its customizability acts as a key selling point, catering to Linux Eye Candy enthusiasts looking for innovative design features. Users can get the latest release from Flathub, or manually compile it by fetching the source code from GitHub. The project website will also redirect Windows users for official installer downloads.
